Most Sober Sixty clients are mid‑life men. Occasionally, stories like these remind us that readiness — not gender — is what truly matters.
I found Tony's coaching links in the Sober Club. I am in my early 60's and I have been drinking since I was a very early teenager. I have a very stressful job and drinking accompanied it. Life then threw my family a curveball, and sadly wine drinking became more and more regular. I tried many times to stop and then moderate, but it was impossible. I am an all or nothing binger, I treated drinking like a competitive sport, one that I was really good at.
After so many false starts I contacted Tony. He understood my inability to stop at "just one."
I came to really look forward to our weekly meetings; I made such progress and I have not had a drink since just before we started. This is now moving towards 3 months without a drink.
Tony has real empathy and he made me feel normal again. Shame and guilt faded as I achieved so much over the weeks. I learned about toolkits and planning, something I had never thought about before. I also learnt how to navigate peer pressure and how to prepare for the extra time I will have because I am not sitting in a chair glugging wine.
It was a fantastic 8 weeks and I highly recommend Tony for your journey. I owe him a tremendous amount and with his support, I now have a new life.
Thank you Tony
